I am beginning to re-enter the post Covid era & have begun to slowly ease back into driving folks
around again...It's something I really enjoy & making some extra dollars sure helps...I never wanted to retire & this past year of being locked down @ home was surely a reinforcement of my reasoning...I always felt that us humans needed to interact with others & keep contributing to this journey we are all on for as long as we are able...This 'job' allows me to meet people of all cultures, situations & life styles...It is my small glimpse into our town...I have lived in the 'Cuse for 71 years except for a 2 year stint in the Army (Germany) & in Sherrill, NY from 1996-2003...Those Sherrill years included dealing @ the Turning Stone for 2 years & owning the Bagel Station for 4...The remaining time was spent running our Archway Cookie Route...Oh & I keep saying I a lot, but Ella Mae has been with me for of all our 50 years...We have worked side by side more years than not...So please know we were & are a team to reckon with...To bring some of you up to date, we had a Fruit Stand in Pulaski & North Syracuse, a Fruit Truck that we drove mostly around the West & South sides of the city...We worked selling life insurance (Colonial Life), the Bagel Station & Cosmo's Cafe...Her faith & unfailing support in me even to this day is a testament to the vows she took those many years ago...
A little history about Sherrill...The 2021 population was 2,948, it is the smallest city in the State with a 238 ranking & in the US 6,309 & is located in Oneida County....I believe that it is one of nicest cities I have ever seen & was lucky enough to have lived in...I always called it 'Mayberry' because it reminded me of the Andy Griffin's shows home town...Clean, great residents for whom I miss because we made many friends there especially because of the restaurant...It also is referred to as the 'Silver City' since it was the home of Oneida Limited which began as a silverware company...The company was founded by a utopian group called the Oneida Community...It was founded by John Humphrey Noyes in 1848 in
Oneida...The community believed that Jesus had already returned
in AD 70, making it possible for them to bring about Jesus’s millennial
kingdom themselves, and be free of sin and perfect in this world, not
just Heaven (a belief called Perfectionism)...The Oneida Community dissolved in 1881, but set up a joint-stock company
called the Oneida Community, Ltd...Oneida Limited was once the
world’s largest designers and producers of tableware and cutlery...If you are interested in all that led up to the Sherrill move you can start @ post #1see the continuing journey to the present...
Masks are beginning to come off for the fully vaccinated with some cautions, but we may finally be on the downside...Spring & Summer could actually be awesome to get out enjoy again unlike last year...So I can't wait to hit the road & do this thing I really enjoy...Thanks much for reading....
