Sitting here @ home this Sunday morning & writing this, seems very odd....I would normally be in Church, but this day is not a normal one....For those of you who have followed me in this blog know that I have had some issues with my back/legs do to my spinal stenosis diagnosis....The area of my pain has now shifted from the front of my legs to the back...The pain has also doubled in intensity...
I went to my Doctor last week & I am on a pain med & a flexeril wanna be...Also had back x-rays & was given a script to start up a program of physical therapy.....I am still able to work, but it is a challenge...So this morning the pain prevented me from my normal Sunday routine....I will however continue to thank God in all things...
Well the basketball camp kids departed on Thursday afternoon...The Friday lunch was very quiet
as a result...When they were here they gave me a small taste of what it will be like this fall when all the students return...Tonight (Tuesday) a group called Reality Check of NY will be here..... I must confess I have never heard of this group until today...Their mission statement is:
1. Engage youth as leaders and activists in the movement against tobacco use and the tobacco industry.
2. Educate community members and leaders about the manipulative and deceptive marketing tactics of tobacco companies, and mobilize them to take action.
3. Engage community leaders and decision makers in support of community actions against tobacco and the tobacco industry.
4. Develop media relationships and work to garner earned media.
5. Utilize the youth voice to demand societal support to hold the tobacco industry accountable for its actions and to change the social norms that support those actions.
6. Contribute to the advancement and growth of a youth action movement against the tobacco industry locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.
Here is a little of their history:
REALITY CHECK (RC), the youth action component of the New York State Bureau of Tobacco Control Program, has been in existence since 2001. For the past twelve years, youth from all over New York have worked hard to educate their peers, parents, legislators, community members and key decision makers on the tobacco industry’s manipulative marketing practises and how they target youth to become replacement smokers.
Pretty remarkable organization....I was a heavy smoker for many years & have not smoked in at least 30 years & I wish no youngster will ever consider smoking...
These groups that use the facilities here @ Caz help keep us employed during the summer for which would normally be a down time....As a bonus I have gotten to meet some pretty interesting folks, their agendas & projects....
Stay tuned because the H. H .Franklin Club Car Conference will be here @ the end of the month for a week....They will park their cars all around the campus....
A little info:
The H.H. F C was founded in 1951 in order to promote, restore, drive and preserve Franklin and other pre - WWII air-cooled automobiles.
The H.H. Franklin Club is dedicated to the education and preservation of air-cooled Franklin motor cars produced in Syracuse, NY from 1902-1934.
I will share more about this club in the next week.....
Thanks to all from my Caz cashier observation desk....
