Friday turned out to be a very good day @ the Cafe.....We even sold out of Haddock & Shrimp!.....One not so pleasant moment was when a man came in & asked for a coffee to go......I 'hooked' him up & as I told him where the lids & fixings were to be found I rang up the sale.....Well that's when it turned a little ugly.....Our 12oz to go Paul De Lima coffee is $1.75 & with tax $1.89......When I announced the cost he says "kind of high isn't it!".....I can take a lot & I believe my service to our customers is beyond reproach, so I am insulted & take this very personally, after all it's my name on the door.....I reply that he certainly is welcome to go elsewhere & make the purchase....I know, not very 'cool', but those of you that know me or of my business tactics, know that I have never cheated anyone, ever..... & greed is a word that burns my tongue when I just verbalize it.....So I explain in so many words that everything I sell is @ a fair price which allows for a fair profit, period!.....He was not happy & neither was I, after all I did not roll out of bed @ 5 am to begin the task of prepping & setting up for the day with the sole purpose of arguing with someone & certainly not over the cost of a cup of coffee!.....I will defend my integrity & business against any ones insults & while I wish this would never happen again, I know it will & probably over another trivial thing....If this were another century I suppose we would have dueled it out for our honors sake...& one of us would have died all over the cost of a cup of coffee......!
As always thanks for allowing me to share & for all your support & prayers....
Well it is almost vacation time! Never thought I would be closing the Cafe for a week of r&r, but the timing is right. With the loss of my Mom, the re occurrence of my spinal stenosis which brings on a pain that is sometimes unbearable, the fact that Ella Mae is on Spring Break from her duties @ SU & finally I'm pooped! If you have followed me on this blog than you know I have 'put it out there' that running a small business & most notably a food business, can take a lot out of you. The fact that I open & close 5 days a week & do all the cooking & dare I say it I am almost 64! That last reason would be enough for most, but I love what I do even when 'stuff' comes @ me. Some times these factors are self inflicted but really most are just events that life can bring to any one of us. So the Cafe will be closed from Monday March 11 & reopen on Monday March 18. EM & I are driving down to spend time with...
I'm the guy who made the remark. I got up at 5:00am too. I'm a working guy too. I got to your place and ordered coffee and paid 35% more than the place down the street. You say you're fair. But from my view you're not as fair as the guy down the street. I was shocked your price was so high. You want to argue. Way to go, tough guy.
